I liked the layout. It represents my personal style. Not very modern. Not overly bright. Just classic texts, prints, and textures.
And all of the "newbie blogger" forums I was reading seemed to obsess about layouts, presentation, etc.
But I realized, my primary reason for blogging is about the content. Not the layout or theme.
I wanted something more simple, still representing of me, but something I wouldn't get bored with easily. But then I realized, one of my favorite blogs has a white background with black font. Very basic... and yet, it's one of my most-visited blogs (I even carry her button on my sidebar).
So does layout REALLY matter? Or is it the message?
Some may disagree. I'm sure some are thinking I'm over thinking it. But I decided to simplify. I may still tweak it here or there as I get suggestions from friends and family members. But I'm more comfortable with this style. It's less distracting (to me). And it's more what I envisioned. For now at least.
Thank you following along on our journey to simplicity. Please be sure to learn about our family, like our page on Facebook, and visit the right column to subscribe to our posts :)

God Bless!
Beth, what a great blog you have! I'm considering joining the 30 Days challenge myself. I followed Kelly (at Imperfect Homemaking - isn't she awesome?) on her journey last October as only a follower, and now that I'm trying to get my own blog off the ground, I think I'll try it this year! Our family is also trying to live a simpler life, and we're starting with the stress that comes from overspending. I can't believe all the possessions we have when I look around my house, and all the money wasted on needless "stuff". We've started making more items at home (bread, jelly, and marinara sauce are the items I've tackled so far), and working on saving money for our future. I love your blog, and I hope you'll visit mine, if you have the chance. I'm looking forward to following you on your 30 Day journey! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThe layout issue is definitely something I'm thinking about too! My blog needs a facelift... but the task is so intimidating to me that I keep procrastinating on it. I am glad to see someone else promoting clean and simple, though, because I completely resonate with your thoughts on it.
ReplyDeleteI love The year of less as well! I like both layouts and I will come back to read no matter what.
ReplyDeleteThis layout really makes your picture pop! So cute.
ReplyDeleteI like both layouts but I think that for many people the design and layout is what draws people in. It doesn't matter if your content is amazing if people are turned off by the design. I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover but I judge a blog by it's layout and design all the time.
ReplyDeleteThe content is what ultimately keeps me but if the lay out is hard to follow or too busy I leave without reading the content!
I love the new layout, I think it looks great. The old one looked pretty too though! I'm following you no matter what your layout looks like though!
ReplyDeleteBeth, I love both layouts! I will always come back to read what you have written because it's so inspiring :)
ReplyDeleteI love both layouts but I love you more <3
ReplyDeleteI love the new layout! I think layouts really speak to the individual. It's my way of seeing what their personality maybe in real life. Thanks again for introducing me to the 31 days challenge. I can't wait till October!
