Day 14 . Changing Sunday

I can't believe I am almost halfway through this 31 day challenge.

Part of me feels like I just started; I haven't covered anything important yet.
I still have a lot to change.
The other part of me feels like it's flying by and I can't believe how much has happened.

Either way, I've been thinking about this series 24/7 for the past 2 weeks straight, and I decided I was in need of a day to rest take my next step in intentional living.. a
nd today was a good day for that.

Changing Sunday

Although we always reserve Sunday mornings for church and connecting with family at lunch. The rest of the day is just like any other week day (except for my husband is home).

God calls us to have Sunday asa day to re-energize, reflect, and worship.

So that's what I did today.
No phone (except for one call to my sister), no email, no internet, no computer.
I read, played with the kids, went for a fall drive, watched the rain outside.

It was a relaxing day.

Do I have more that I need to make up for tomorrow now? Yes. But there will always be more to do tomorrow.

So I'm changing Sundays from now on.

Do you use Sunday as a day of rest?

  1. Oh, Sunday's a tricky one. For me, Sunday is a huge homework day, but I'd still like to commit part of my week to God. Wednesday would be best. I think that as part of my Sabbath, I'll start small and commit to a half-hour silence. I've been trying to look for quiet in the hullabaloo of studying abroad, after all (I'm in Ireland right now, until December.)

Glad your Sunday was refreshing - I'm looking forward to joining you!

    1. I think what's most important is taking the time - not necessarily the exact day or a number of hours. Just doing whatever you can and purposefully focusing on Him :)

Ireland sounds like an amazing place to take time to reflect! Don't be so busy studying you don't enjoy your time there (which I'm sure you are) :)

  2. I have been contemplating this a lot recently. We have been studying Genesis in our Bible study, and it is interesting to see that the 7th day is the only day that God said was Holy. Now, obviously, in the New Testament we aren't required to use Saturday as the Sabbath, but we are still supposed to quiet ourselves on one day during the week. We also spend Sunday morning at church, but I also use it as a catch up day on laundry, planning out meals for the week, grocery shopping and whatever else we need to accomplish. I have been working through making one day during the week our Holy day, and completely stepping back from other commitments. I failed miserably yesterday, but I wonder if next week will be different.

    1. Dear Heather, that sounds less like a failure to me than it sounds like a slip. You can do it!

  3. While not a Christian (I'm a Unitarian Universalist), I have been reserving my Sundays for church and rest. First, I help teach a Sunday School class (we call it lifespan growth and learning class), then we attend service and follow it up with lunch with other congregants. The rest of the day is usually quality family time. Even before we started this routine we used to designate one weekend day a "work day" and another a "play day". It really is a wonderful way of rejuvenating and getting priorities in check.

  4. I love this idea! I've always tried really hard to honor Sundays and use it as a day of rest like we're supposed to do. We go to Sunday School and church in the morning, cook a big lunch, then we usually take a long nap or DH and I watch a movie while the baby naps. Occasionally I do a load of laundry on Sundays, but I try not to. And sometimes we all go grocery shopping together. I don't like the idea of doin that, but at the same time its good family time for us (we love grocery shopping, haha). I do limit my computer/phone time all weekend long (I like to make the most of my time with my daughter since I work full-time), but I don't completely cut it out on Sundays. Sundays are my day to recharge and relax! (:
